Synopsis

In the year 2019, Neo-Tokyo, all authority is waging a never-ending struggle against the underground that virtually rules the shattered city. A top-secret child with psychic powers breaks free from custody and accidentally gets a motorcycle gang involved in the project. The incident triggers psychic powers within one of the members, Tetsuo, and he is taken by the army and experimented on. Warped by bullying and the experiments done to him, Tetsuo sets out to conquer all that stands in his way.

Katsuhiro Ôtomo is a Japanese manga artist, screenwriter and film director. He became the most famous anime director in the early 1990s following the success of the animated film adaptation of his manga “Akira”. He has also directed several live-action films, such as the film adaptation of the manga “Mushishi” in 2006. In a recent interview, Otomo announced his plans to start a new manga series, set during Japan’s Meiji period (late 1800s – early 1900s). It will be his first long-form work since “Akira”.
