Following a tough divorce, 40-year-old Lucas has a new girlfriend, a new job and is in the process of reestablishing his relationship with his teenage son, Marcus. But things go awry. Just a story – a random lie. And as the snow falls and the Christmas lights are lit, the lie spreads like a virus. The shock and mistrust get out of hand, and the small community suddenly finds itself in a collective state of hysteria, while Lucas fights a lonely fight for his life and dignity.

Thomas Vinterberg graduated from The National Film School of Denmark in 1993 with the short film Last Round. In 1995, Vinterberg and Lars von Trier co-wrote the Dogme-manifesto – the foundation for the successful Dogme-movement. Vinterberg’s international breakthrough came in 1999 with The Celebration for which he won a number of awards. The Celebration was followed by two English language features, It’s All About Love (2003) and Dear Wendy (2005), the latter written by Lars von Trier. In 2007, Vinterberg returned to his native language with the comedy When a Man Comes Home, and in 2010 his film Submarino was selected for the Official Competition at Berlin International Film Festival. The Hunt is Vinterberg’s 7th feature film, its lead actor Mads Mikkelsen was praised for his performance, winning Best Actor at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
