Beirut Locarno Industry Academy International

The Beirut – Locarno Industry Academy International is a new initiative organized by the Metropolis Cinema Association in the frame of Beirut Cinema Platform, and Locarno Festival with the support of the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture (AFAC).

This workshop aims at helping young industry professionals in sales, marketing, online and traditional distribution, exhibition and programming, to understand the challenges of the independent movie industry within the Arab world, and the International scene.
The first edition of the Beirut – Locarno Industry Academy will take place from March 22 to 25, 2018. It will offer a group of participants mostly from the Arab world* (eligible countries listed below) the chance to meet with International guest-speakers and tutors.
The Beirut – Locarno Industry Academy will offer accommodation and lunches during the 4-days of stay in Beirut, with the possibility of covering flight cost, upon request.

The Industry Academy, launched for the first time at the Locarno Festival in 2014, is a program for young professionals working in the fields of international sales, marketing, distribution, exhibition and programming (festival, cine-club, museum, cinematheque). It has been created in order to help them to position themselves in the industry, and also to allow them to directly interact with regional and international industry professionals and key players. The Industry Academy acts as a shortcut for a new generation of professionals entering the independent film industry, encouraging their progress, helping them to get a better understanding of the Industry’s challenges and broaden their network of contacts. The aim of the Locarno Industry Academies International is also to build bridge across different markets in Europe, North and Latin America, and now Middle-East and Maghreb.

The Call for entries for the first Beirut-Locarno Industry Academy International is open from Wednesday December 20th, 2017, and until Friday January 26th, 2018 for young professionals interested in improving their skills and network of contacts in the fields of sales, marketing, distribution, exhibition and programming /curating, preferably already working with an established company, or having a significant experience in the above-mentioned fields.

IMPORTANT: An excellent level of English (spoken and written) is required.
