The Metropolis Association has always been very keen to bring the younger audience to the cinema. Moving images play an essential role in shaping younger generations. By presenting stories that open a window to a world unknown and adding new perspectives to familiar narratives, the young audience program is at the forefront of Metropolis’s mission to improve access to culture and incorporate social development to its cultural action. By bringing together young enthusiasts and underprivileged groups to the screens, we strive to inspire the future generations and spark their curiosity.

Through its action, Metropolis developed three projects that have become a core activity in its annual program: Cinema on the Road, Metropolis Youth Film Festival, and Tous au Cinema! (in partnership with the French Cultural Institute since 2009).

The main objective is to offer events throughout the year for various youth groups by curating tailored-made film catalogues and activities. The programs strike a balance between providing entertainment and knowledge in order to bring a better understanding of film culture and its potential.

Improving film literacy and accessibility are long-term objectives that insure future generations will get to enjoy the same cultural offer as their elders. Events have been hosted in Beirut and other locations in the country by schools, partner NGOs as well as other regional cinemas.

With those carefully curated film selections, Metropolis has reached out to young audiences from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. The projects address youth, but also educators and parents as it is essential that Metropolis’ activity is supported by a network of stakeholders.
