CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

TAABIR | Film Expression Workshop 

Led by Yara Nashawaty & Corine Shawi

Organized by the Metropolis Cinema Association in the framework of the 28th edition of the European Film Festival in Lebanon.

Workshop Description:

Taabir film expression workshop groups 6 participants aged starting 40, who will produce short individual video diaries over the period of two and half intensive days. Filmed in the immediate surroundings of the workshop and at home, the exercises will take the form of shot/edited personal diaries and will be analyzed under the pillars of aesthetics, form and content. Teachings will focus on pushing each participant to identify and develop his/her own film language.

The call is open until the 22nd of September 2023. 

The workshop will be held in Arabic in Beirut between 29 September and 1 October 2023.

Requirements:

- Be aged starting 40 years old.

- Be interested in self-expression by using the camera as a tool. Any previous knowledge in audiovisual or in art in general is not a prerequisite to participate in the workshop. The only requirement is the desire to tell your stories.

- Submit a short motivation letter of around 250 words explaining why you would like to participate in the workshop.

- Submit 5 still images taken by you that express who you are or how you think. 

Trainers’ bios:

Corine and Yara met in the late 90s while studying filmmaking. Since then, Corine has directed 7 documentaries, including both shorts and feature-length films, showcased in numerous international festivals. She has also taught filmmaking at various universities. Yara on the other hand, has specialized in Cinema research and has taught Audiovisual Studies in various institutions. She is part of the pedagogical and administrative team at IESAV – Saint-Joseph University of Beirut.

تعبير - ورشة تعبير عبر الأفلام

من تنظيم جمعية متروبوليس سينما، في إطار الدورة الثامنة والعشرين لمهرجان السينما الأوروبية في لبنان.

تعبير - ورشة تعبير عبر الأفلام تجمع ٦ مشاركين من عمر ال٤٠ وما فوق، سيقومون بإنتاج وتصوير يوميات فيديو قصيرة على فترة يومين ونصف مكثّفين. سيتمّ التصوير في المحيط المباشر لورشة العمل وفي بيوت المشاركين، وستأخذ شكل يوميات شخصية مصورة وسيتمّ تحليلها وفقًا لمعايير الجماليات والشكل والمحتوى. ستركز التعاليم على دفع كل مشاركة للتعرف على لغة الفيلم الخاصة بهبها وتطويرها.

الدعوة الى المشاركة مفتوحة حتى ٢٢ أيلول ٢٠٢٣. 

تعقد ورشة العمل باللغة العربية في بيروت بين ٢٩ أيلول و١ تشرين الأول ٢٠٢٣.

أهلية المشاركة

- المشاركة مفتوحة للأفراد المقيمين في لبنان من عمر ال٤٠ وما فوق.

- الاهتمام بالتعبير عن الذات عبر استخدام الكاميرا كأداة أساسي. أي معرفة سابقة في المجال السمعي البصري أو الفن بشكل عام ليست شرطا مسبقا للمشاركة في ورشة العمل. الشرط الوحيد هو الرغبة في سرد ​​قصصك.

- إرسال خطاب تحفيزي قصير من حوالي ٢٥٠ كلمة يشرح رغبة المتقدمة في المشاركة في ورشة العمل

- إرسال ٥ صور فوتوغرافية من التقاط المتقدم/ة تعبّر عن هويّة أو كيفية تفكير المتقدمة

نبذة عن ميسّرتي ورشة العمل

التقت كورين ويارا في أواخر التسعينيات أثناء دراسة صناعة الأفلام. منذ ذلك الحين، أخرجت كورين ٧ أفلام وثائقية، بما في ذلك الأفلام القصيرة والطويلة، عُرضت في العديد من المهرجانات الدولية. كما وقامت بتدريس صناعة الأفلام في جامعات مختلفة. من ناحيةٍ أخرى، تخصصت يارا في أبحاث السينما وقامت بتدريس الدراسات السمعية البصرية في مؤسسات مختلفة وهي تنتمي إلى الفريق التربوي والإداري في معهد الدراسات المسرحية والسمعية المرئية والسينمائية (IESAV) – جامعة القديس يوسف في بيروت.
