Metropolis Youth Film Festival

Metropolis Youth Film Festival was created in 2016 as part of Cinema on the Road. Since most existing film festivals were targeting adult audiences, it was deemed necessary to provide youth with the same opportunity to celebrate film in a festive way. It is organized in partnership with the Embassy of Denmark in Lebanon and the U.S. Embassy in Beirut at the Metropolis Empire Sofil Cinema.

The aim was to develop this festival to include guest appearances and a program of workshops.

The programs included regional and international shorts and feature films, presented over a period of four/five days, followed by Q&A sessions.

The festival’s film selection suits different age categories ranging from 5 years old till 18 years old and above. The festival will also include 3 programs of short films suitable for children (most of the films are with no dialogue or dubbed to Arabic).

The workshops cover topics such as stop-motion animation (MY Animation Workshop), sound design (MY Sound Workshop), directing (MY Film Directing Workshop), acting (MY Acting Workshop) and puppet-making.

Each edition welcomed over 1,000 attendees, of which a significant percentage represented invitations for NGO’s (Search for Common Ground, Himaya, Avsi…). The capacity-building activities had an average participation of 40 children per edition.
