The Cinematheque Beirut is pleased to invite you to the presentation of “Cinema in the Arab World, New Histories, New Approaches,” a volume dedicated to the examination of the histories, politics, and conditions of distribution, exhibition, and particularly of audiences. 

This event will feature the screening of The Last Screening, a short-film by Eliane Raheb made in 1995, narrating the history of a cinema operated by one of the filmmaker’s relatives in Zahle. 

Following the screening, Ifdal Elsaket will introduce Cinema in the Arab World, which she co-edited. In conversation with writer & archivist Nathalie Rosa Bucher, Elsaket will present the New Cinema History approaches and will delve into her own chapter and research, tracing the history of the cinema in Egypt, exploring cinema-going and memories of leisure. ‎يسرّ سينماتك بيروت دعوتكم لحضور عرض ‎كتاب "السينما في العالم العربي: تاريخ جديد، مقاربات جديدة"، الذي يتناول السينما بدراسة للتاريخ وللسياسيات ولظروف التوزيع والعرض، بالإضافة إلى دراسته للجماهير. كما سيتضمن الحدث عرضًا للفيلم القصير "العرض الأخير" الذي أُنتِج عام ١٩٩٥ للمخرجة إليان الراهب، ويروي تاريخ صالة سينما يديرها أحد أقارب المخرجة في زحلة. وبعد العرض ستُقدّم إفضال الساكت كتاب السينما في العالم العربي، والذي شاركت في تحريره. كما ستُجري إفضال الساكت حوارًا مع الكاتبة والمؤرشِفة ناتالي روزا بوشر تتناول فيه مقاربات تاريخ السينما الحديثة، وستتعمّق في فصلها وأبحاثها، متتبعةً تاريخ السينما في مصر ومستكشفةً لذلك النشاط الترفيهي الذي يتمثّل في ارتياد السينما، وفي ذكريات الترفيه بشكل عامٍ.
