M.I.A. goes from the daughter of a Sri Lankan Tamil resistance fighter to a refugee, immigrant and ultimately, a world-famous pop star. M.I.A is problematic, unmanageable, and unapologetic: and she aims to stay so. With intimate footage from her childhood in England as an immigrant, to her come back to Sri Lanka where she tries to connect with her roots, as well as her fight against americans medias when they dismissed her political opinions, Steve Loveridge's documentary is a testimony on what it means to break every social and economic barrier in one lifetime, while trying to shake a pop-world enclosed in political correctness.
