Join us for the screening of the first feature film to be written by a migrant domestic worker in Lebanon.
Rahel Zegeye, a migrant domestic worker in Lebanon who is also a filmmaker, wrote a script for a movie four years ago. The movie was filmed but did not see the light at the time due to different financial and legal hurdles. However, the team was finally able to make a screening happen this month. Watch it with us on Tuesday June 11th at 7:45PM in Metropolis Empire Sofil cinema - Achrafieh. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the writer.

This is a fundraiser screening. Revenue made from ticket sales goes to support the work of migrant worker community organizers in Lebanon.

About the film:
Shouting Without A Listener is a movie that tells the story of three Ethiopian women who migrate to Lebanon to work as domestic workers. As the film weaves through the women’s experiences with employers, agencies, and the Ethiopian consulate, we gain an understanding of the racism and discrimination that many migrant domestic workers face in Lebanon under the current legal systems. The film shows how the women become support systems for each other as they build strong and valuable relationships in a context where they are often isolated. Though the film is not a documentary, it is based on true events, and the writer and Ethiopian actors are migrant workers in Lebanon.

About the writer:
Rahel Zegeye is a filmmaker, activist, and domestic worker in Lebanon. Prior to Shouting Without A Listener, she released her first feature film, Beirut, in 2011. Rahel has been advocating for migrant domestic workers’ rights for over 14 years now, and works alongside many other migrant workers and Lebanese activists and organizations to support domestic workers facing abuse and exploitation in the country.

فيلم "صراخ من دون مستمع" يروي قصة ثلاث نساء إثيوبيات يهاجرن إلى لبنان للعمل كعاملات منازل. ينقل الفيلم تجارب النساء مع أرباب عملهن، مكاتب الاستقدام، والقنصلية الإثيوبية لينقل صورة عن العنصرية والتمييز اللذين تواجههما العديد من عاملات المنازل المهاجرات في لبنان في ظل الانظمة القانونية الحالية. كما يُظهر الفيلم كيف تقوم هذه النساء بتقديم الدعم لبعضهن البعض في سياق غالباً ما يتم عزلهن فيه. على الرغم من أن الفيلم ليس فيلمًا وثائقيًا، إنه مبني على أحداث حقيقية، كما ان الكاتبة والممثلات هن عاملات مهاجرات في لبنان.

نبذة عن الكاتبة:
راحل زيغاية هي مخرجة افلام ، ناشطة، بالاضافة الى كونها عاملة منزلية في لبنان. أصدرت راحل فيلمها الروائي الأول "بيروت" في عام 2011. تقوم راحل بالدفاع عن حقوق عاملات المنازل المهاجرات منذ أكثر من 14 عامًا، وتقوم بالعمل إلى جانب العديد من العاملات المهاجرت والناشطين والناشطات وجمعيات المجتمع المدني بهدف دعم عاملات المنازل اللواتي يواجهن سوء المعاملة واستغلال في البلاد.
