سهى بشارة، مسيحيةٌ من جنوب لبنان، لطالما شاهدت منطقتها ترزح تحت الاحتلال الإسرائيلي. تحاول اغتيال الجنرال أنطوان لحد، قائد “جيش لبنان الجنوبي” المُلحَق بالجيش الإسرائيلي. يُصاب لحد إصابةً بالغةً وبالكاد ينجو من الموت. تُسجَن سهى وتتعرّض للتعذيب المطوّل. تبلغ من العمر 21 عامًا، وستقضي 10 سنواتٍ في معتقل الخيام، 6 منها في الحبس الإنفرادي.
24 أيار من العام 2000، تنسحب إسرائيل من جنوب لبنان بعد 23 عامًا من الاحتلال. تقتحم الحشود معتقل الخيام.
يتبع الفيلم رحلة عودة سهى بشارة من معتقل الخيام إلى قريتها دير ميماس، المكان الذي حاولت فيه اغتيال الجنرال لحد. بالنسبة إلى سهى، النجاةُ من الجحيم هي مذكرات سفرٍ ممتعةً وتأمّليةً وتحرّرية؛ مذكرات رحلةٍ تجعل المرء يؤمن لبرهةٍ بإمكانية المصالحة في بلادنا.

Souha Béchara, a Christian from South Lebanon, has always known the region under Israeli occupation. She tries to assassinate General Lahd, the head of the South Lebanon Army, an auxiliary of the Israeli Army. He is left gravely injured, narrowly escaping death. Souha is imprisoned and tortured at length. She is 21 years old, and will spend 10 years at the Khiam detention center, 6 of which in solitary confinement.

May 24th, 2000, after 23 years of occupation, Israel retreats from South Lebanon. The Khiam detention center is mobbed by the crowds.

The film follows Souha Béchara’s return to her village, from the Khiam Camp to Deir Mimas, in the very place where she tried to assassinate General Lahd. For Souha, surviving hell is a joyful, thoughtful, and liberating travel diary. The diary of a trip that, for a moment, lets one believe in the possible reconciliation of our country.

Militante communiste chrétienne, originaire du Sud Liban qu’elle a toujours connu sous occupation israélienne, Souha Béchara tente d’assassiner le général Lahd, chef de l’armée du Liban Sud, armée supplétive d’Israël. Grièvement blessé, il échappe de peu à la mort.
A 21 ans, Souha est emprisonnée et longuement torturée Elle passera 10 ans au camp de Khiam, dont six à l’isolement total. Le 24 mai 2000, après 23 ans d’occupation, Israël se retire du Liban Sud.
Le camp de Khiam est pris d’assaut par la foule qui libère les prisonniers…
Le film retrace le retour de Souha du camp de Khiam, à son village de Deir Mimas, à l’endroit même où elle a tenté d’assassiner le général Lahd.
Ce film est un carnet de voyage, heureux, sérieux, libérateur. Un voyage qui pour un temps nous laissera croire à une possible réconciliation de notre pays.
