During the final years of the Franco regime, Ana, a 9-year-old girl, lives with her two sisters at her aunt's house. In this confined environment, Ana feels suffocated. She is a reserved child, plagued by insomnia, and endowed with a fertile imagination. She continues to live in the shadow of her mother's premature death and believes that she has an evil power, to the extent that she holds herself responsible for her father's death.

Durant les dernières années du franquisme, Ana, une fillette de 9 ans, vit avec ses deux sœurs chez sa tante. Dans ce milieu étriqué, Ana étouffe. Enfant taciturne, insomniaque et douée d’une imagination féconde, elle vit toujours à l’ombre du décès prématuré de sa mère et est persuadée qu’elle possède un pouvoir maléfique au point de se croire responsable de la mort de son père.

إنها السنوات الأخيرة من حكم فرانكو وآنا البالغة من العمر ٩ سنوات تقيم مع شقيقتيها في منزل خالتها. ولكن في هذه البيئة الضيقة تشعر الطفلة بالاختناق. قليلًا ما تتكلم آنا وهي تعاني من الأرق ويطاردها شبح وفاة والدتها المبكرة. يدفعها خيالها الخصب للاقتناع بأنها تمتلك قوى شريرة لدرجة أنها تحمّل نفسها مسؤولية وفاة والدها.
